Lamborghini USA | Jacksonville History | Aerial Video
Once upon a time, this building rumbled with the sound of air-compressors, impact wrenches, and 500-horsepower Italian twelve cylinder engines. From 1989 until 1998, Lamborghini USA Inc. was headquartered in this building in Jacksonville, FL.
The building was designed by local renowned, KBJ - L&B Architects, and built and refined by Elkins Construction, LLC to handle 200 super-cars a year. The 56,000 sqft facility staffed 10-12 employees who received, prepped, assembled and tested all of the North American Lamborghinis, mainly Diablos and Countachs. During its tenure as Lamborghini USA Inc, the facility handled 50-100 cars a year. The supercar automaker capitalized on the city’s international shipping port to receive and test cars after assembly on the empty roads and abandoned runway at Jax Port that allowed the drivers to test the cars to their maximum. Sadly, in the late 1990s, slow sales and increasing facility costs forced Lamborghini to close the US facility and focus production back home in Italy. The company did eventually open a new USA Headquarters in Santa Monica, California in 2008. But if you visit this building here in Jax, you can still feel some of the lingering Lamborghini magic.
